ROYAL PERFORMANCES 2009/2010
2010 Purina Sydney Royal
Oh my godness -I can barely contain myself....... Rynkls have done it again with yet another Royal double!! Taking Best of Breed for both Shar Pei AND Chows!! Lots of thanks to Team Rynkls (Kay, Robyn, Melissa, Elise and Neil) for making the two days possible; and to those (Paul, Trudi, Alan and the boys) who stayed home to take care of things. Couldn't do it without you XXX
Shar Pei Report: A fantastic win, this time silencing the critics with a great performance by Zoe!! Yes, little quiet -"I'll just hide in the background" Zoe gained an inside run and slipped to the post unchallenged. Thanks again to our worthy challengers including Sue Davis with her lovely team. Sue's boy CH: Wrinklestar Man About Town was awarded Runner up Best of Breed. Special mention also to Vicki Pocklington -breeder and part owner of Zoe and winner of the Breders Group. Nice also to have Shirley and Peter join in with their well loved Pei's. And a very special thanks to my partner in grime -Robyn for handling Zoe to her big win.... What a legend.
Chow report: Yoichi was acomplete hit all day with the cowd and the judge!! Taking on some of the states top dogs from Matavai and Kuteaz kennels. It was great to catch up with Helen, Margaret, Colleen, Gail, Suzane and David. All wonderful people and enthusiastic about our breed. Yoichi put it on in the ring and was a standout to all. Thanks again for all those that have supported us to enable this win.

Well, it had to happen -Milly was knocked from her perch by the new kid on the block -Wookie. It was great to finally have some competitoin and we must really thank Sue Davis of Wrinklestar and Miniatura fame who travelled from Sydney with her strong team and also Barb Loades from Matgo for making the big trip from SA with four strong contenders.... but it was us locals who took the goods.... very exciting.
Unfortunately the sponsorship for the show fell short which was a shame. Takes a bit of the shine off winning at a Royal when really you have nothing to show for it. Have decided NOT to ever buy Advanced again!!
But all in all we had a great time and look forward to the Syd Royal in April.
Wookie with his proud "Mum's" following his 2010 Canb Royal BOB!!

2009 Royal Queensland Show -Judge was Mr Philip John (India)
Well, well, well -we tottled off to sunny Qld for a bit of a sticky beak -not knowing what to expect with the many big winning Pei's from the "Sunshine state" -but came away smiling with yet another BEST OF BREED!!!! That makes it a triple crown for the Princess -now dubbed "The Princess Royal"!!
We were on the back foot at first with a complete lack of information from the show organisers as to where to park etc... In fact the organisers seemed to have it all a bit backward with numbers that did not match the catalogue, unable to pre order catalogues and some rather tense moments getting the right dogs into the ring. Still -to their credit, once it got rolling the stewards and committee did a great job and were mostly friendly and professional.
Once we got inside and jostled for a spot (no -no pre-arranged benches -at most the breed was assigned a row -but that seemed to work well) it did not take long to settle in and start to focus on what we were there for. Again Milly played it up to the crowd -happily dishing out kisses and enduring many pats and comments.
The excercise yard left a lot to be desired. It consisted of a large enclosed room with a cement floor. Of course NO Princess in her right mind would relieve herself there!! Poor Milly hung on from 6.30 am until we finally got out at 5pm. I really don't know how she managed to move in the ring!! This really needs to be addressed as this sort of arrangement only gives the advantage to those dogs who are kept in the un-natural surroundings of cement and totally disadvantages dogs allowed the joy of a natural home.
There were 25 representatives from most of the top Pei Kennels including Gablehaus, Zhanshi, Manchouria, Mukaro, Cinbrad and Xioping. A strong field of Pei's that all represented the breed well. All our fellow competitors were friendly and welcoming and we had a great time meeting and greeting. Well done to Gablehaus for going on to win Baby in group too!! Special mention to for the Challenge dog -Mike and Tina Larhman's Ch: Gablehaus Ke E Mo "Max". He stole my heart!!
Thanks again to "Team Rynkls" for making this win possible; including Karen and Kay for helping on the day, and the home team again for keeping things real at the other end. We could not do it without you all!!
And of course, special mention again to Sumwrinkles for breeding such a wonderful Princess.
Pics to come.......
2009 SYDNEY ROYAL EASTER SHOW - Judge was Mr Z Brankovic (Serbia)
Oh my goodness -she's done it again!! Scarier than defending your Canb Royal win is defending your Sydney Royal win!! But Milly just took it in her stride taking Best of Breed against some of the best Pei's in the country.. Again she was also a hit with the public and a great ambassador to the breed -spending many hours on the bench being patted and dishing out sloppy kisses. She even managed a TV performance!!
Many thanks to all who made this day special for Rynkls Shar Pei -especially "Team Rynkls" -Robyn, Kay and Karen; and the home team too!!
Congratulations also to Sumwrinkles Shar Pei for having bred the Princess for us!!

CANBERRA ROYAL - Judge was Mr Mike Shoreman (Canada)
Another great start to the year for Rynkls Shar Pei. Milly was back to defend her title as Best of Breed from last year and did it in style. Although there were only the three entries, they were all worthy competitors -Aust Champ and BISS "Sumwrinkles Molly's Bella" and the up and coming star and multi class in show winner "Sharpeilodge Double Dare". So, it was always going to be a tough field, but again it was Milly's day. And a day of it she made -not only taking Best of Breed, but being short listed for the group and then taking best Australian Bred in Group. What a Champ!! Zoe also had a great day taking runner up Best of Breed -not bad at 10 months!! Unfortunately she was knocked out by the runner up in group for best junior -oh well.....
Pics on the way......

Royal Performances 2008
CANBERRA ROYAL -Judge Mr Reynolds (Canada)
What a great start to the year. We fronted to the Royal to find that it was to be a family affair with Milly's two litter mates, Crikey and Buzz; her older sis (BISS) Bella; and mum Molly being the only other entries. Having never beaten mum; and having shared wins with the other sibs in the past we knew we had our work cut out. But something was in the air that day. Milly was just on top of it -it was going to be her day. The judge Mr Reynolds (Canada) is quite tall and his presence in the ring was somewhat daunting, but Milly seemed to actually ignore him and was focused on the boy's (as girls do).
So, come time for the bitch line up and by now Milly is beside herself with excitement. I am calm, as I was not expecting to win, but then I notice we are being looked at.... could it be.... YES... we got the CC!! OK, now I am nervous. I know we can beat Crikey.... but he is looking good.....OK, lets go for it. I am so thankful that the bitch's get to move behind the dogs..... Milly moved beautifully and it did not take Mr Reynolds long to decide it was Milly he wanted that day.
So, it was a great result and a lot of fun.

SYDNEY ROYAL 2008 -Judge Mr S Kimura (Japan)
After a nervous start to the day Milly settled into the routine of having dozens of people patting her and asking the usual questions. It was a bit disappointing to be benched away from the other Pei's, but we managed to make some new acquaintances within the Samoyed exhibitors. Thanks Samoyed people!! Being the final breed for the day, and Milly being the last entry meant that she was to be the last dog judged that day! That makes for a long day!!
We were happy to win our class -"Intermediate Bitch" against a stylish "Crumplezone Icey Cream" and nervously took our place at the head of the bitch line up. (I was nervous -Milly was having a great time!!) It did not take long however for Mr Kimura to make his decision to put Milly up over the quality bitches "Miniatura It Will BE Me" and "Wayatinah Heidi". Then it was time to take on the dog "CH Sharpeilodge Conrad" who had come through from the "Open Dog" class. We knew this would be tough given his maturity over Milly, but again Mr Kimura had eyes for Milly and we were ecstatic to be awarded Best of Breed.
The celebrations were cut short however when we were whisked away for Milly to be tested for drugs!! "Lucky she decided not to go out partying the night before" I thought!! Of course she tested negative to any drugs -as I expected -I mean who would drug their dog???
I did manage to catch up with my competitors before we all left for the day thank goodness. After the many phone calls, collection of prizes and purchase of champagne, we set out on the celebratory trip back to Canberra. It only took three bottles of champagne to get back, and more followed once we arrived. (Lucky I had a designated driver -Thanks Phil. X) Of course Milly just slept all the way home. She still does not understand what all the fuss is about!
In all it was a great achievement and an excellent experience. GOOD ON YOU MILLY
Adelaide Royal 2008
Unfortunately, due to work commitments (got sent to a conference -lucky me) we were not able to attend the Adelaide Royal. A shame as there was a strong line up of Shar Pei. Would have been a tough one and would have liked to be there. Oh well, there is always the Melb Royal!! Congrats to all the winners!!
Melbourne Royal 2008
Well, what a trip. Stayed with a great friend who opened her home to us and enjoyed having Milly make herself at home. We ventured off to the show with no real expectations -but hey -that is what we said for the Sydney Royal too..... Anyway, it was fantastic but somewhat frightening to see so many absolutely quality Shar Pei all together. Two of the biggest names in the Shar Pei world, Rodney Connelly and Stacey White were there with strong contingencies. It was nice to finally put names to faces and also catch up with old acquittance's. Milly did her usual "playing it up to the crowd" trick and was a real hit with the public.
When the time came to go into the ring she was not as excited as she was in Sydney. The only other entry in Milly's class was Stacey's classy bitch "Silkston Sizzlin Aff Air" who took the class easily over the lack luster Milly. Still, it was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed the day. The amenities were top class and the weather, although a little stormy was not bad. We will definitely be returning next year.
HOBART ROYAL 2008
Unfortunately due to Zoe becoming suddenly ill we were forced to withdraw from the Hobart Royal. Very disapointed with this having travelled all the way to Tassie. Still, I went along dogless and enjoyed a great day in the beautiful sunshine watching everyone else strut their stuff.
